Participating in a Triathlon is an ambitious endeavor. Not only must you be prepared physically, but also mentally. It takes a special individual, filled with determination - and a slight tinge of stubbornness - to attempt such a difficult undertaking.
I had the pleasure to interview SWAT Fuel Athlete, Triathlete, and Mother, Elisabeth Cenicola. She gives us insight on how she became a Triathlete and what it takes.
SWAT Fuel: Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer these questions, Elisabeth. Please, tell us about yourself and how you got into becoming a successful triathlete.
Elisabeth: My name is Elisabeth Cenicola. I have been in the health and fitness industry for over 20 years. Competitive by nature, lately my biggest competition has been myself. Four years ago I had knee surgery. I couldn’t believe my body had let me down.
During rehab, I vowed to not only get my fitness level back to where it was but to exceed it. I was curious to see what I was really made of, to see if I could do something that at that time seemed impossible. I signed up for my first Triathlon. “I just want to finish” I told myself. After months of training I was finally at the finish line wondering if I could have done better. I did my second Triathlon two months later. Exhausted at the finish, one moment ready to never do it again and in the next signing up for a Half Ironman distance, 70.3 miles of racing.
SWAT Fuel: Very impressive! How has SWAT Fuel assisted you in your journey?
Elisabeth: In addition to training, I am a wife and mother of two teenage boys with a desire to push my body and soul to its limits. I realized in this quest to do it all I needed help. Training for the longer distance was daunting. Early in 2014 SWAT fuel came into my life.
I was looking for an natural supplement to sustain my energy, stamina and endurance. SWAT fuel has far exceeded my expectations. It has given me the edge I need not only to follow my passion but exceed it. Since taking SWAT fuel my race times as well as placings have significantly improved. I had my first podium 3rd place in September 2014 followed up by a 1st place finish in November that same year.
In 2015, training with SWAT fuel gave me the confidence to do a full Ironman, a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and a 26.2 mile run. I finished in 12 hours 20 minutes with a coveted 1st place in my age group. This is a day I will never forget.
Sharpened focus and an improvement in my overall health is an added bonus I never expected from SWAT fuel I want you to know that I just had my 50th birthday. I am far from anyone special. I am just a wife and a mom who has a desire to continually push the limits of what society and people say I should be doing.
SWAT Fuel: That's awfully inspiring! Congratulations on all your success. As an experienced Triathlete, what would you tell someone who is thinking about participating in a Triathlon?
Elisabeth: Be careful in starting a conversation with me. My first question is always, “Want to train for a Triathlon”?
SWAT Fuel: Finally, what's on deck for you? What do you hope to accomplish?
Elisabeth: I have three more races planned for this year, looking forward to pushing the limits of what I think I can achieve. My biggest hope is that someone out there will be inspired to do something they think is impossible. I know for a fact that dreams, wishes and hope will be a reality if you are willing to leave a part of yourself behind in the training, it’s never easy. What takes it’s place is a quiet confidence that is hard to describe until you feel it.
SWAT Fuel is a big part of my health and fitness journey, I can’t wait to see where it takes me next!
